Benefits of Studying the Piano

Studying the piano is a deeply enriching pursuit—for serious students and hobbyists alike. Some of the many benefits I’ve observed time and time again include:

  • Improved memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Greater multi-tasking ability and the development of good study habits.

  • Increased fine motor control and spatial awareness.

  • A refined aural sensitivity and richer musical imagination.

  • Growth in emotional maturity and self-confidence.

  • A deeper aesthetic appreciation and greater cultural literacy.

Student Expectations

Before enquiring about lessons, please take a moment to read the following.

To get the most out of lessons, students should come with a willingness to learn, and a positive and respectful attitude.

I ask that my students:

  • Practice regularly. Consistent, thoughtful practice is essential. As a rule of thumb, students should aim to match their daily practice time with the length of their weekly lesson.
    – For example, beginners doing 30-minute lessons should aim for 30 minutes of practice per day.
Intermediate students in 45–60 minute lessons should ideally be practicing 45–60 minutes daily, depending on their goals.

  • Be curious and engaged. Ask thoughtful, relevant questions, try things out, and treat mistakes as part of the learning process.

  • Receive feedback graciously. I offer constructive, respectful guidance, always aimed at helping you play with greater confidence and better understanding.

  • Play with care. The goal isn’t just to hit the right notes, but to play with thought, feeling, intention, and expression.

Students who are willing to do the above will find that lessons can be relaxed, enjoyable, creative, and mutually respectful. In return, I aim to give my best, providing high-quality instruction, and a sincere commitment to each student’s progress and success.

    – If I need to cancel a lesson, a make-up will be offered. If no suitable time can be arranged, the lesson will be credited toward the following term.

Trial Lessons

I offer trial lessons for new students, which are charged at the standard rate. This can be paid as a one-off, or counted toward the term fee if we choose to continue.

A trial lesson gives both student and teacher a chance to see how we work together. It’s important to find the right fit—every student learns differently, and a good match in communication style and expectations is essential.
